HOW BAHAYBATA127 STARTED
With a vision of helping poor Filipino children, an American couple named Bro.Joe and Sis.Virgie McGourn visited Payatas, a large dumpsite in Quezon City, Philippines on January 24, 2004. They were linked by Rev. Lizette Dizon-Arches with her former church members and through networking with Mission Ministries Philippines, were guided through the dumpsite during the reconnaissance.
Upon arrival at 2am, Bro. Joe asked the nanays (mothers) what they want to do for the community and the idea to bathe dirty Kids left by their scavenging parents came about. On January 27, 2004, 3 days later, the 1st grooming mission was done at Calamiong, Payatas, QC. T-shirts with the theme "Mahal ako ni Jesus, Alam ko na!" (Jesus loves me, this I know) were given together with a pair of slippers and shorts. 250 grooming kits and meals were also prepared but more than 500 Kids came over! Promise for a 2nd grooming mission was given. Feb 21, 2004, a 2nd batch of 250 Kids were groomed and fed as promised.
Thus, the BATHE & FEED A KID AT PAYATAS program was organized and done once a month to teach the children personal hygiene as a social assistance to the 51 christian churches who are spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ to their community and as an avenue for Bahaybata127 to help in the holistic center of families in Barangays Payatas and Commonwealth, Quezon City as well as other dumpsites in other provincial areas such as Tibagan, Marilao, Bulacan and General Nakar, Quezon.
How did we get the name?
Psalm 127:3
“Children are a heritage from the Lord, and the fruit of the WOMB is a reward from Him."
In Filipino, it reads:
Awit 127:3
“Narito, ang mga anak ay mana mula sa Panginoon; at ang bunga ng BAHAY BATA ay kanyang gantimpala."
GOD provides the best to His children as he provides the WOMB as the best place for His gift of life.
